Built in 1848, the Mount Pulaski Courthouse was the Logan County seat of government until 1855. Lincoln argued cases in the building, which helped establish his reputation as both an attorney and a gifted speaker. When the county seat was moved to Lincoln, Illinois in 1855, the Mt Pulaski courthouse was used as a city hall, school, and post office. The state purchased the building in 1935 and began efforts to restore it to the 1850s appearance.
